Unsaid in English

English is full of useful gaps. Unsaid in English gathers words from other languages that say the thing we almost have a phrase for: a mood, a social pressure, a kind of longing, a moment between people. Each entry is part translation, part design study, part small argument for borrowing better.

This project was made through an AI-assisted design process. I used AI (ChatGPT) to help surface candidate words, draft and compare explanations, and generate source imagery (Midjourney). I then shaped the collection through selection, editing, layout, and visual judgment.

The illustrations draw from midcentury editorial cartoons: economical linework, expressive poses, and staged little scenes where emotion becomes readable before it has to be explained.

For a project about words English has to talk around, that visual language gives each entry a quick human signal: a face, a posture, a situation, a feeling caught in the act.
